Lock & Load Wins Blue Ribbon in Fleece Competition
Posted 26 October, 2008 in Alpaca General | No comments
Lock & Load wins blue ribbon in fleece competition held at the Southwest Fiber Festival this past Saturday. The judges commented on his great handle. They said his fleece is in excellent condition and presented as a whole fleece should be. Also, his staple length was good. One of the judges came over to my booth to personally tell me the good news. She told me hands down his fleece won over all the others.
The SouthWest Fiber Festival was a huge success. This was the first year it was in place and it was held in Amado Territory Ranch in Amado, AZ. The turnout was good considering it was quite hot at 87 degrees. Sales were good for DMAR Store and we look forward to going again next year.

Love is in the Air at DMAR:
Alpaca Breedings: Now occuring on the ranch…..AVR By Golly Miss Molly has been bred to DMAR Apollo. Both DMAR Athena and Walls Edge Ranch Emma have been bred to HRAZ Lock & Load. We tried to breed DMAR Electra to DMAR Diego, but these two youngsters just aren’t ready yet. They are both under 2 yrs of age, so we have some time for them to become full adults. At this time Electra is real aggressive towards Diego when he shows any interest. She spits at him and charges into him. Then poor Diego looks at me as if to say, “now what?”.
Maremmas: Bianca started her heat on Oct. 14th. This week she should be very receptive towards Santino’s approaches. If all goes well Bianca will give birth to her litter by around Christmas.
Southwest Fiber Festival: Don’t forget this weekend is Southwest Fiber Festival being held in Amado at 3001 E Frontage Rd. We will bring DMAR Apollo and DMAR Diego. Please stop by and speak to Tom about raising alpacas. Afterwards stop by our DMAR Store Booth. The holidays are approaching quickly and alpaca products make wonderful gifts!

Maremma Pup - Donatella
Posted 7 October, 2008 in Maremmas | No comments
Maremma Pup - Donatella arrived last Tuesday. She is 9 weeks old and as you can see not much of a guard dog yet. Ha ha. At this time she is too small and plays her role of a puppy seriously. I can tell you that she thinks she runs the place. She barks directly in the face of the adult dogs. She makes them give up their food for her and is quite annoying to them as she bites them on the backside.
Tommy and I are constantly trying to discipline Donatella. No jump, no bite, and no running in between our legs as we are walking. We sound like a broken record, but we can hardly get mad at her as she quickly falls to the ground and rolls over exposing her belly for a good rubbing.
We just love Donatella!
