Donatella is coming to DMAR. We are so excited expecting the arrival of our new maremma puppy. It took almost a year to find her as most of the puppies we looked into were related to our male, Vincenzo. Donatella is 9 weeks old and has a straight coat. This will now complete our second breeding pair.

Bianca should be going into heat next month. Our waiting list has already begun. To find out more information on Santino, Bianca, and what last year’s puppies looked like please go to Maremmas.

Versaci 4Versaci 3Versaci 2DMAR Versaci

DMAR Versace was born on Monday, September 22nd at 9:25 am. At this time he is a brown boy weighing 16.8 lbs. He is nursing well and shows he is growing by jumping off the deck.

Versace’s dam, AVR By Golly Miss Molly, is doing well. She surprised us as she went into labor 5 days early, however as you can see in the pictures Versaci is definitely full term. Ears are straight and the teeth have erupted meaning he is no preemie. Molly showed no signs of labor. I fed her early around 5:30 am. She ate fine. It wasn’t until 9:20 that I noticed her standing with her tail straight up. I casually walked outside to check on her and when I reached the gate I heard her pushing. I quickly ran inside to grab the cria kit. A minute later I was outside to find the baby’s head and feet sticking out. It was the fastest labor I have experienced so far. Within 5 minutes the cria was on the ground.

Versace is the 3rd cria born on our ranch using our herdsire, Snowmass Incan Emperor. The first cria, DMAR Nikoli, recently took 1st at the 2008 New Mexico State Fair Alpaca Show. The 2nd cria, DMAR Armani, will attend his first show in November at AlpacaFest West. We are truly excited as his histogram came back showing he has a 17.8 micron. Armani is everything we wanted from the combination of his dam and sire. Now we add Versace to the mix. We expect him to be just as wonderful as the other two crias.

We can’t wait until the next show to see if we can have Dominique a 1st place winner.

Cable knit alpaca dress sock winner from this wekend’s Sierra Vista Home and Business Expo raffle is Ms. Deloris Brooks of Sierra Vista. I was very happy to call her today to advise the good news. I personally delivered the socks to her and explain what makes alpaca fiber superior over wool.

The SV Home and Business Expo was a big success. Our booth was visited by thousands of people. Sales were made of alpaca sweaters, capes, socks (both dress socks and hiking socks, and stuffed teddy bears. Tom and I answered tons of questions and loved speaking to the public. We look forward to the next expo.

Home and Business Expo at Buena High School is being held this Saturday, September 13th from 9 am to 4 pm. We will be there and hope that you all will stop by and say hello. We will bring some items from the DMAR Store and you know it is never too early to start your christmas shopping.

Next weekend is the NM show. We are taking 4 juveniles, 1 yearling, and 1 adult. We are very excited to go and hope our alpacas will behave. Hopefully we will come home with a bunch of ribbons.

By Golly Miss Molly is now in her 11th month of gestation. Her day 335 begins on September 27th. Last year she birthed on that exact number, however the average length of gestation goes from day 335 to day 355. We are waiting on pins and needles as we bred her to our rose grey herdsire, Snowmass Incan Emperor, and from the last two crias he gave us we can only expect another winner. Don’t forget to watch her on the web cam.
