DMAR Maremma Puppies Update

Well it has been almost 4 weeks (puppies born 12/23/07) since the puppies were born.  It is amazing how much they have changed. They were almost helpless being blind and deaf at birth to now just 3 weeks later walking around, barking, playing, and even growling.

They are beautiful little puffs of white that you can see on our live cam at www.desertmtnalpacas.com. Once on the main website select the live cam link at the top menu. It will scroll between the alpaca maternity ward and the puppies.

You can watch them play and just like one person observed one is more the aggressor. Can you guess which? Well it is the female. She seems to be taking after her mom. Although Bianca (bitch) is lovable to all who we introduce her to she is very hesitant and weary of the stranger. She takes her job seriously. We already can see that the female pup too gives us a growl/bark combo and then licks our faces. The male pup is just as cute and both puppies have their sire’s coat, Santino. Beautiful waves running through it.

Both puppies are for sale and will be ready by the end of March. Please contact us at 520-378-3263 for more information or by email at info@desertmtnalpacas.com.

  • Just found your blog using google search. The puppies are adorable. The new crias look great. We had our last one on December 29th. It was real cold that week too.

  • Thank you. We are real excited here as our next cria is due in a couple of weeks. Its hard to wait so long to see how your breeding selection has gone. Since we have already had 3 males and only 1 female so far we are keeping our fingers crossed that the next one is a female as well as the cria due in March.

These puppies are the first litter we have whelped. We are simply amazed at the transformation they go through in such a small period of time. Bianca is a great mom and should teach them well. Santino, unfortunately, is not allowed with them yet. He listens behind the gated fence and anxiously awaits when we pick them up to show him. He is definitely the proud dad.

  • Hello Tiggerbu,

It is hard to keep the puppies in the box. They are now 5 weeks old and are able to climb out of the box themselves. If you look you can see that my husband has now added a bar across the front to make sure they stay in at night, however during the day we take them out so that they can roam with their mom. They are very playful now and quite curious. I will have to ask my husband to move the cam from the inside to the outside now so that you can see. This may take a few days.
I’m glad you and your son like to watch. We will have it moved shortly.

    Regards,
    Janice
